Course Overview: Game Time! An Intro to Coding with Scratch Jr. Unit 1
This introductory course will inspire excitement for learning computer based programming and will open up the world of coding and creativity for young learners.
Kids will learn basic coding concepts and will have fun using their imaginations to play with and design their own playground games.This course combines learning and play in a brilliant way, so students have fun while learning 21st century skills like algorithmic sequencing and coding concepts like motion, repeat, sound, and control blocks.
They will learn to work through problems with the support of social emotional learning and a focus on Purpose and Self-Management.
Kids will get the chance to share their projects with their classmates and get feedback to help build a sense of community, even in a virtual world.
This course is a must for young kids that want to learn about technology and coding with the support of peers and a small group environment as well as have fun engaging in dynamic content.

Social Emotional Learning Topics: Purpose and Self-Management
Lesson 1: Introduction to Scratch Jr. and social emotional learning
Lesson 2: Explore the Playground: Movement Blocks, Reset Button
Lesson 3: Cartwheels and Hop to the Spot: Backgrounds, Triggering Block
Lesson 4: Sharks and Minnows: New Characters, Triggering Block
Lesson 5: Hokey Pokey: Recording Sound, Wait Block, Speed Block
This class is intended for beginners who are brand new to coding and are in early elementary grade levels. No prior experience is needed.

Do you need help picking the right course? for help choosing the best option for your kid.
Your kid will be part of a small group, live online class that meets 1 hour/week. There is no homework assigned for outside of class. However, don’t be surprised if your kid wants to do more on their own for fun.
We believe that human-centered skills and technical skills need to go hand in hand in order to create inspired leaders and problem solvers who will direct positive, social change through technological advancement. With this vision in mind, we add Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to all of our courses. In this course, kids will learn to work through problems with the support of social emotional learning and a focus on Purpose and Self-Management.
