Creative Voice, Creative Writing, Create with Toys2Life (Week of July 27th)

Creative Voice, Creative Writing, Create with Toys2Life (Week of July 27th)

Creatives and Coders wanted! In this camp, students will learn to create and populate a large cast of non-player characters (characters not controlled by a player of a game) using Toys2Life, an artificial intelligence enabled platform that allow characters to talk to one another.

Students will learn to write character’s dialog lines and back stories, voice act the lines. Want to become a better writer, a better voice actor, connect with other creators, and create characters to contribute to the Toys2Life universe’s cast? Come join the creatives!

Fun Science and Coding with micro:bit (Week of July 27th)

Fun Science and Coding with micro:bit (Week of July 27th)

FUN is the name of the game as campers learn coding and science using the popular micro:bit platform. In Day 1, campers will learn the basics of micro:bit and create a simple game using micro:bit. In Day 2 and Day 3, campers will learn the engineering design process and build an egg drop device. Students will use micro:bit to measure acceleration of their device and improve the device before breaking too many eggs! In Day 4 and Day 5, campers will use the micro:bit to create a soil moisture sensor.

Scratch 2: Game Design Continued (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

Scratch 2: Game Design Continued (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

The game design adventures continue with Scratch 2! This camp is for campers who took Scratch 1 and are ready to continue developing their coding skills. Campers will get a chance to refine their Scratch Under the Sea and In Space games. They will learn to use variables and messaging and will create an excellent ending to their game based on variable values.

Python 2 (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

Python 2 (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

Let the coding fun continue! In Python 2, campers will learn to use additional features in Python’s Turtle library to draw more complex patterns. They will learn to add text to their drawings, use randomness, and create conditionals to make more intricate shapes and patterns. Campers will use the power of their imagination to create art projects while practicing coding and math skills making this camp an incredible combination of STEAM-tastic learning!

Introduction to Computer Aided Design (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

Introduction to Computer Aided Design (Week of July 20th) - Course completed and available through August 7th

Campers will use TinkerCAD to create their own 3D printed parts! They will first be introduced to Computer Aided Design software (CAD), using TinkerCAD. Campers will start by solving simple projects and slowly move to more complicated designs. After everyone becomes familiar with the software, campers will be introduced to the engineering design process. They will start with a common everyday problem, conduct their own research, and then create their own design to solve the problem of their choosing. After the camp is finished the campers design will be printed and shipped for campers to keep!

goIT Design Thinking and App Development Camp for Girls (July 6th ~ July 17th) - Course completed and available through July 31st

goIT Design Thinking and App Development Camp for Girls (July 6th ~ July 17th) - Course completed and available through July 31st

Since its launch in 2009, TCS goIT has engaged more than 10,000 students in over 100 school districts. Seventy percent of goIT students say they’re more interested in STEM fields after the program. We love that kids who have grown up using technology now want to learn how to create it. Build a Robot has been a proud partner of the TCS goIT program since 2017. This year, thanks to the sponsorship from TCS, we are excited to continue the mission and bring this program virtually to students.

Python 1 (Week of July 13) - Course completed and available through July 31st

Python 1 (Week of July 13) - Course completed and available through July 31st

Python 1 campers will learn Python programming by creating their own art projects with Python’s Turtle library. Campers will learn to use drawing commands, variables, loops, lists, and operators in Python.

Introduction to Junior Robotics - Level 1 - 1 (Week of July 13th) - Course completed and available through July 31st

Introduction to Junior Robotics - Level 1 - 1 (Week of July 13th) - Course completed and available through July 31st

As junior builders, campers in the Storytelling with Robots camp will learn about robotics in a fun and supportive environment! Our goal is to help campers build interest and confidence in technology with lots of fun and engaging hands-on activities. This camp is perfect for young campers with or without prior robotics experience. Campers will construct multiple robots using colorful Lego-compatible RoboKid sets that incorporate electronic components such as a CPU board, sensors, LEDs, buzzers, and motors.

Scratch Jr. 1 (Week of June 8th) - Completed, class access available through June 26th

Scratch Jr. 1 (Week of June 8th) - Completed, class access available through June 26th

Campers will learn Scratch Jr. and be introduced to coding concepts using motion, repeat, sound, and control blocks. They will create sprites, algorithmic sequences, and events to make their own interactive scenes.
