Come have some fun creating art projects with tech in this project-based, girls-only class! We will bring art and design together with programming, robotics, and physical computing with micro:bit – a powerful, credit card sized computer – and the use of blocks and Javascript to program. We will build robotics, add LEDs to clothing, and use Bluetooth to control our projects. We will use craft materials and programmable craft cutters to make our own fantastic creations and add sensors and motors, so they will interact with you and your world. Campers will design and build projects of their own choosing.

Ages 6-9 | Grades 1st to 3rd

This 4-week class is all about having fun with Python. We will use Python to build a game and learn how to program with Object Oriented Programming. This class will also introduce Pygame, the most popular Python gaming module. Students will need to come into the class with a basic understanding of Python, including looping, conditionals and lists.

Game Design with Robots and Coding Half Day Camp

06/29/2020 – 07/03/2020   M – F, 9:00 AM – Noon

Ages 6-9 | Grades 1st to 3rd

Let’s bring our favorite board games and playground games into action with computer design and robotics! We will play our favorite games and explore what makes them so much fun. We will, then, bring our games to life through the movement of robotics and by coding our games using Scratch and ScratchJr. This camp is perfect for campers who love robotics, games, and want to learn how to code. It will be a great combination of creativity, exploration, design, coding, and playing!

Storytelling with Robots and Coding Half Day Camp

06/29/2020 – 07/03/2020   M – F, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Ages 6-9 | Grades 1st to 3rd

Water Crisis PBL Camp

07/06/2020 – 07/10/2020   M – F, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Ages 11-14 | Grades 6th to 8th

Water is our most precious resource, but what happens when there is contamination? Campers will look at all angles of how they can tackle a major public safety problem. They will view water treatment through the lenses of engineers, environmentalists, community members, and public representatives. They will work together to come up with a solution to protect our water supply and discover that they have the tools to solve big problems. This camp is taught by STEAM education teachers that teach Problem Based Learning during the school year. It will be an incredible opportunity for students to work collaboratively, think critically, be creative, and learn how to try, test, pivot, and try again. A field trip to the Louisville Water Treatment Center will be part of this week’s camp.

Space Explorers Camp

07/13/2020 – 07/17/2020   M – F, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Ages 8-11 | Grades 3rd to 6th

It’s T-Minus 240 hours until Blast Off! Put on your astronaut helmets spacesuits as we get ready to explore the fabulous world of space. Campers will make their own rockets, design a space habitat, engineer their own food source, and create sound cones and solar ovens in this fun-filled space camp.

Science of Toys

07/20/2020 – 07/24/2020   M – F, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Ages 8-11 | Grades 3rd to 6th

Toys can be created from most anywhere! Campers will learn about bubbles and repurposing recylced materials in this fun and creative science camp. We will learn about recycling and what it means to repurpose materials into other items, including toys. We will engineer toy cars from recylced goods and have our own car rally. We will also explore the magic of bubbles by investigating the properties of different materials in the creation of bubble wands and wrap up our week with a Bubble Bonanza!

Introduction to AI Robotics Camp

07/27/2020 – 07/31/2020   M – F, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Ages 11-14 | Grades 6th to 8th

Join us this week to learn all about Artificial Intelligence (AI), an area of computer science that develops intelligent machines that can work and react like humans. In this camp, we will use Cozmo Robots and introduce AI concepts such as speech and facial recognition. Campers will use block-based and/or Python programming to code their AI robots. They will conduct hands-on projects to use built-in AI functions that enable their robots to carry out a number of functions (i.e. recognize and greet campers by name, bust out their dance moves, and trigger alarms when sensing an object or person). Campers will also program their robots to detect and retrieve objects and avoid obstacles. We will design games and model real-life uses of AI in our world. This camp is appopriate for new and experienced programmers and robotics builders as campers are able to choose the projects that fit their interests and experience levels.
