The First Mile: Help K5 Students Get Ready for the Future
According to the latest report from code.org, 50% of the high schools in the U.S. are now teaching at least one Computer Science (CS) course. That is a tremendous progress the CS Education community has made over the past decade. However, much work remains to be done. In 2020, there were 1 million more jobs than students graduated with CS degrees (400,000 graduates). We believe that it is critical that school administrators, teachers, students, and parents view CS education as equally important as other subjects at the elementary level. Starting a CS program at the elementary level is actually very easy and fun! In this session, we will share our 5E framework, the importance of combining social emotional learning with CS skill building, our practice of delivering programs virtually and in-person at the elementary level. We will demo a mini lesson, discuss teaching strategies, and answer questions.
