The First Mile: Help K5 Students Get Ready for the Future
According to the latest report from code.org, 50% of the high schools in the U.S. are now teaching at least one Computer Science (CS) course. That is a tremendous progress the CS Education community has made over the past decade. However, much work remains to be done. In 2020, there were 1 million more jobs than students graduated with CS degrees (400,000 graduates). We believe that it is critical that school administrators, teachers, students, and parents view CS education as equally important as other subjects at the elementary level. Starting a CS program at the elementary level is actually very easy and fun! In this session, we will share our 5E framework, the importance of combining social emotional learning with CS skill building, our practice of delivering programs virtually and in-person at the elementary level. We will demo a mini lesson, discuss teaching strategies, and answer questions.
Spark the Fun of Creative Writing and Voice Acting with Toys2Life
Toys2Life is a software platform enabled by artificial intelligence that allows user-created characters to talk to one another. A group of upper elementary and middle school students have been working together online for almost two years. They created a virtual world called purple shore. Outside the club time, they each have become creative writing enthusiasts! Come check out the fun! Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a fun and collaborative character creation session.
